Huge Light Fixture Falls On High School Wrestler Michael McComish In Madison South Dakota

Madison high school wrestler Michael McComish was bloodied and knocked to the mat Friday night, but not by another wrestler.

The senior was hit by a spotlight that crashed down on him from the ceiling area in the Madison Middle School during a special wrestling event. The spotlight was used for the school's annual wrestling meet billed "Madison Square Garden."

The spotlight fell onto the back of McComish, who was in a referee's position with his hands and knees on the center of the mat. just before the Chamberlain High School wrestler prepared to take the top position. A YouTube video of the incident shows the light falling onto McComish, and others around him scrambling to lift it off him. It also shows McComish receiving treatment to his head.

McComish, a senior, received stitches after the accident that happened about 50 seconds into his match.

McComish told The Daily Leader of Madison on Monday afternoon that he had 15 to 20 stitches on his forehead and the back of his head. He said the rope on the lighting fixture broke and he heard the chains rattle, then thought, "What the heck happened?"
His mother, Heather Bergheim, said her son has been a devoted wrestler since sixth grade and had to miss wrestling at the Kingsbury Tournament on Saturday. But she said he was there supporting the Bulldogs.

"We are very thankful it was not more serious," she told the newspaper. "We are hoping for the best and taking it just one day at a time."

McComish tweeted that he was not seriously injured not long after the match Friday night.
"Just letting everyone know I'm fine! Stitches in my head," McComish wrote on his Twitter account, @comish69. "Gash on forehead and back of me head and little cuts from the glass nothin serious."

Bud Postma, Madison School District athletic director, said McComish attended class on Monday.
"The unfortunate accident that occurred on Friday was indeed a scary moment for everyone involved," he said in a statement. "We are thankful to report that (McComish) is recovering and is in school."

Bulgarian Politician Failed Assassination Attempt

Bulgarian opposition leader escapes assassination attempt

The leader of Bulgaria's opposition Movement for Rights and Freedoms, Ahmet Dogan, escaped an apparent assassination attempt Saturday while addressing a party congress in Sofia, local media reported.

The attacker pointed a gun at Dogan, but was prevented from firing, according to the reports. While security wrestled with the attacker, Dogan was tackled to the ground by his bodyguards.

The party, which mainly represents the Turkish minority in Bulgaria, had called the convention to elect a new leadership. Dogan, 58, has led the party since founding it in 1990.

After taking part in the governing coalition, the party switched to the opposition following the 2009 elections, which were won by the conservative Gerb party of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.

Following reports of the attack, Borisov ordered Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov to attend the Movement for Rights and Freedoms congress.

A wedding on-board a hot air balloon ended with a crash right into the backyard of a San Diego County home. Their marriage is now off to a bumpy start due to this hot air balloon crash. What happen was the operator had apparently lost control of balloon. Thankfully no one was hurt in the accident, The hot air balloon was totally destroyed in seconds after the hot air balloon hit the ground According to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesman Maurice Luque, the balloon landed in the back of a home on Calle de los Ninos at Avenida De La Cantina shortly after 4:45 p.m. Kerin and Jonathan Narcisse had just exchanged their wedding vows thousands of feet in the air. Shana Pergande, one of the six loved ones witnessing the wedding, did not skip a beat recording the entire crash landing with her cellphone. Luque said 13 people were inside the basket of the balloon when it landed. One of the balloon's occupants suffered a minor back injury and was transported to Pomerado Hospital as a precaution. No other injuries were reported. The deflated blue-and-yellow balloon wound up draped over a tree and part of a home but caused no known property damage, according to Luque. Later, at their reception in La Jolla, the newlyweds explained what happened. "The first couple times he tried to land, we floated over," said Kerin Narcisse. Jonathan Narcisse added, "We kept missing landing spots. Next thing you know, we're descending and I'm thinking, 'How is he going to land here' because there's no place to land. And of course he hit the fence, but we hit and we skidded and then we bounced." "I got a little worried when we hit the fence and I thought, 'Well, if the fence doesn't stop us then we're going down this hill,'" Kerin said. There is plenty of irony behind this matrimony. "I told him if I ever got married again I had to get married in a hot air balloon," said Kerin. But Jonathan, an editor and publisher from Iowa, is deathly afraid of heights. "I am terrified," he said. Yet he agreed, saying it was a testament of his love. On Tuesday, the owner of Skysurfer Balloon Company called the incident a "windy landing" and said it happens all of the time.
